A good friend of mine, John McClelland, ran for TX State Representative in 2008. He ran one of the best campaigns in our county, and was such a terrific candidate...everyone I know was pulling for him. Despite his and his campaign's best efforts....he lost. However, he got 40% of the vote in a VERY red county--and that's an accomplishment to be proud of.
Running a local campaign like John's is neither cheap, nor easy. I know that, even though campaign funds pay for the cost of mounting a campaign, personal funds have to squeak in there somewhere: to pay for gas to get to events; a new suit and tie (NOT from Saks, like some Alaska politicians we know), etc.
Now John is helping himself recover from campaigning (note to Republicans: yes, we help ourselves; we're not always waiting on a government handout, despite what you like to tell everyone). Along those lines, he sent me a link to a really nifty little product--Obama Soap (cleaning up America...one shower at a time!).
I don't know about you, but I've been purchasing a number of these little Obama "souvenirs" that I come across. After all, this is momentous change that America is experiencing: our first African-American President! And, our last Moron President (I hope!!)
I liked these soaps...what a great way to show my party affiliation in my guest bathroom. So I bought a mini "Blue State Bluebonnet" and a mini "Sensible Sunflower."
[A blue Bluebonnet state....a blue Texas. Sigh. One can dream sweet dreams...and keep working toward making them a reality.]
Anyway, back to soap...I can't wait to get my Obama bars. And in the process, John McClelland earns a small commission on any bars purchased through this link to the Obama Soap website.
Let's help John out, and encourage future local Democratic candidates. Buy your Obama Soap bar today! And let me know in the comments what scent you picked.
This Blog is on hiatus....
As most Denton County Democrats know, I co-founded the Democratic Women of Denton County (DWDC)...and I'm now the President of that organization. DWDC has grown quickly (as have donations), and I have been really pouring all of my spare time into DWDC, and have not been keeping up with blogging here.
To see what's going on with DWDC, go here:
www.democraticwomenofdentoncounty.org
Even though this blog, Castle Hills Democrats, is on hiatus, I'm going to leave it in place for awhile. After my tenure with DWDC ends, I might want to come back here and pick up blogging again.
To residents of Castle Hills: yes, I'm still your Democratic Precinct Chair, representing you to the Denton County Democratic Party. The County Chair over there, Phyllis Wolper, is a good friend of mine. You should check that organization out:

Obviously I am involved with all kinds of Democratic people and happenings in Denton County. If Castle Hills residents, or any resident of Denton County, wants to know more about Denton County Democratic activism, email me and I'll put you to work...or point you in the right direction...
